Singapore’s “Vertical Forest” Skyscrapers Set to Redefine Urban Sustainability

Singapore is taking urban sustainability to new heights—literally. The city-state has unveiled plans for a series of “Vertical Forest” skyscrapers, designed to integrate lush greenery into the heart of its bustling metropolis. The project, part of Singapore’s Green Plan 2030, aims to combat urban heat, improve air quality, and provide habitats for local wildlife.
The flagship development, known as the “Oasia Downtown,” will feature over 30,000 plants and trees spanning 27 species, all integrated into the building’s facade. The greenery will be supported by an advanced irrigation system that uses recycled rainwater and greywater, minimizing water waste. In addition to their environmental benefits, the Vertical Forests will include community spaces, such as rooftop gardens and urban farms, to promote social interaction and food security.
“Singapore is a city in a garden, but we want to take this concept further,” said Mr. Tan Wei Jie, the country’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment. “These skyscrapers are not just buildings; they are living ecosystems that contribute to the well-being of our citizens and the planet.”
